Simply the best facials

Hello lovely ladies and gentlemen. With the date of beauty salons across the UK being able to re-open coming around quickly, I wanted to remind you all and give you a little more information on our speciality - facials. We are working hard to be able to re-open Hawkins Clinic in the safest way possible, and that may mean that facial treatments may not be first on our long list of treatments to be offered once again, however, until we are able to offer them in a safe way, why not take a look at our MOST POPULAR facial treatments to see what takes your fancy.

SkinPen is a micro-needling procedure that can be used to treat a number of skin concerns (including acne scarring) and not only can it be done to the face but also to the neck and décolleté.

Micro-needling is an aesthetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile probes in order to induce the production of collagen. SkinPen is also classed as Collagen Induction Therapy and is not just a ‘quick fix’. To ensure the best results it is important to commit to a programme. This, in turn will stimulate the production of new collagen and the re-modelling of old collagen.

So, how does SkinPen actually work? We use tiny sterile probes (fitted into a mechanical pen) to injure the skin on purpose in a controlled environment. The probes enter the skin vertically without tearing or scratching the tissues. This causes very slight inflammation (redness) and triggers a wound healing response. During wound healing, our bodies produce new collagen and strengthens and re-models old collagen structures which helps to re-heal old scarring properly and tightens the skin, leaving you with a glowing, youthful appearance.

The benefits of a SkinPen treatment include;

• Improved appearance on wrinkles, minimised pore size and induced skin tightening

• Stimulates collagen production promoting regeneration and better complexion

• Improves surgical, traumatic and acne scarring

• Treats hyperpigmentation (brown spots)

• Minimally invasive procedure with little to no recovery time

• Noticeable results in less than a day

• Safe for all skin types from light to dark

• Effective on all body parts including face, neck and décolletage

Is it painful? Because of a topical anaesthetic cream is used before the treatment, discomfort, if any, is minimal. It feels very similar to a CACI Microdermabrasion treatment. However, due to the nature of the treatment, the skin is usually red afterwards but this subsides within a few hours.

Best visible results are seen after three to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, however a positive difference can be seen after having your first treatment.

Following your treatment you are provided with a strict aftercare protocol sheet which should be followed for optimised results, as well as post-procedure care products

When we speak about forma, there are three different treatments that can be performed with one machine; Forma, Forma Plus and BodyFX. Two of these treatments are for the body and I will give you a little information about these too.

Forma is a non-invasive treatments for collagen re-modelling and tightening. It uses radio frequency energy to target deep layers of the skin, with no area being under or over treated. This treatment, like SkinPen can be done on any skin type. Clients can just relax during the treatment feeling only a warm sensation and movement of the treatment head.

The heat allows your skins collagen to be increased and re-modelled making your skin more youthful. As we age, collagen structures become weak and smashed (think of it like an old mattress), thus creating fine lines and wrinkles. The Forma system allows the collagen strands to re-mould into tighter lines, therefore improving fine lines, wrinkles and overall texture.

Forma treatments are usually done as a programme, with one session per week, with a total of six to eight treatments in total performed. A maintenance program is also suggested to help maintain long term results.

During a Forma treatment, gel is applied to the treatment areas and the Forma head will glide over the areas in small passes. Forma treatments are essentially painless with no downtime. A lot of clients have described the treatment as feeling like a hot stone massage. After a treatment, clients may see slight redness in the treated areas, which will go down after a few hours. Clients are also able to return to their daily activities after the treatment.

Overtime, clients usually notice a reduction in the folds of their skin leading to a smoother contour kit of the treated areas. Sagging skin will also appear more toned and lifted. However, even after one treatment the treated areas will look refreshed and lifted.

One of the body treatments is called Forma Plus. Forma Plus uses radio frequency energy to stimulate collagen production for body re-modelling. After having a Forma Plus treatment you can achieve a more youthful and toned skin contour making the body appear smoother and younger.

Like your normal Forma it is painless and the client just feels the heat from the Forma heads. Typically weekly sessions are recommended over a six to eight week period.

The second body treatment provided with the Forma machine is BodyFX. BodyFX is a long lasting, non-invasive solution to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The radio frequency energy distributes heat into the skin and underlying fat, causing the tissues to heat and contract, to provide beautiful body shaping results.

Again, this treatment does not hurt. You can expect warming of the skin and a gentle pulling sensation  it is recommended that weekly sessions are performed over an eight week period.

Alumier chemical peels:

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower its natural pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulation new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels have been used dating back to Ancient Egyptian times but have been developed A LOT since then making them safer and providing better results with little to no downtime.

The Alumier peels are superficial to medium depth and provide excellent results. They have been created so that they are suitable for all and provide amazing results all the while avoiding the side effects and downtime associated with deeper peels.

When peels are performed regularly, the skin gets used to the exfoliation process and begins to rejuvenate itself like younger skin. To be sure there are no reactions to the exfoliation process, peels are introduced gradually giving the skin time to adjust.

Beautiful skin does not happen overnight, and treatments take time to show results. A single chemical peel can provide the immediate effect of bright and radiant skin however, more significant results in treating textural issues, fine lines and inflamed acne can take up to eight weeks. As with most treatments a programme is recommended for the best results, as each individuals skin is different as well as their tolerance therefore a programme is usually worked out upon consultation.

The maximum downtime after a chemical peel is seven days. Clients will still be able to continue their normal daily life. This is because unlike older or deeper peels, the skin does not become raw red or fall off in clumps (as seen in Sex and the City). The skin will become slightly pink immediately afterwards but will subside within a few hours, and for up to seven days post peel the skin may feel a little dry, tight and flaky in localised areas (usually around the movement lines). Clients are provided with a strict aftercare protocol sheet and a post-procedure kit which should be followed for the best results.

Alumier peels build up in strength. To begin with, a radiant peel will be chosen based on your skin and then once your skin becomes used to this you can move on to the medium depth peel known as, the glow peel. Please see below for a little information on each.

Radiant 20/10: for oily, congested or acne skin. Contains Lactic acid and Salicylic acid. This is a superficial peel.

Radiant 30: for any other skin type, particularly rosacea, sensitive, dry and mature. Contains Lactic acid. This is a superficial peel.

The Glow Peel: suitable for all skin types, contains Lactic acid, Salicylic acid and Resorcinol (used to increase effectiveness). This is a medium depth peel.

Guinot...our lovely salon brand with a whole range of facials. Eight of them in total! However, let’s just remind ourselves about our three most popular facial treatments.

Our most popular Guinot facial is the Hydradermie, which I am sure many of you have already had before. It is also my most favourite facial to perform.

This exclusive treatment method provides spectacular results, stimulating cell activity and providing skin with a youthful appearance. It is an alternative to aesthetic medicine that acts instantly to reduce the signs of ageing. It is also a personalised treatment tailored to meet the clients personal beauty objectives, therefore making this facial suitable for all skin types.

This facial uses electrical current (galvanic) to re-hydrate the skin, deep clean the skin and increase cellular activity. It does this with the help of special ionised gels personalised for your skin type and an emulsion full of fresh oxygen, to help refresh the skin.

This facial also includes cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, a relaxing massage and a mask.

Our second most popular Guinot facial is the Hydradermie Lift facial. This fantastic treatment method uses muscle tone to lift the features for a more youthful appearance. Again, it is an alternative to aesthetic medicine that acts instantly to reduce the signs of ageing.

This facial also includes our amazing Guinot machine therefore uses an electrical current. The machine is used within two stages of this facial;

1. Anti-ageing drainage: decongests the lymphatic system and refined facial features. The client dies not feel anything in this stage.

2. Muscle stimulation: stimulates the muscle activity with an immediate lifting effect on the skin. It re-educates the muscle memory, increasing muscle tone. In this stage, the client will feel a slight pull (e.g. the eyebrow raising).

This facial also includes cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, a relaxing massage and a mask.

Our third most popular Guinot facial is called Age Summum. This facial is completely manual meaning the electrical machine is not used at all.

This is an exclusive skincare treatment that erases signs of advanced ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.

It includes four important stages;

1. Exfoliation: a specially created exfoliant used to deeply cleanse and eliminate dead skin cells, refine skin texture and nourish the skin.

2. Anti-ageing regeneration serum: a serum massaged into the skin containing pure Vitamin C to activate the synthesis of collagen.

3. Anti-ageing massage: specially formulated massage medium accompanied by particular massage moves to lift the skin, fill in fine lines and wrinkles and protect cellular growth.

4. Anti-ageing radiance mask: a sheet mask for the face and neck to add radiance, stimulate the synthesis of collagen and fight against skin slackening.

This facial also includes cleansing and extraction.

Thank you  all so much for reading once again this week and I hope this has given you an insight into our most popular facial treatments at Hawkins Clinic. I hope to see you all again soon. I will be back next week with a new blog for you and an update on our plans for re-opening. Xo
