Finding ways of staying young without cosmetic surgery is increasingly popular. With all the different types of treatments, it can be difficult to know how they all work and what might suit you. Learn how these three non surgical beauty treatments can combat the effects of ageing.

We all know about the aging population and with the eventual removal of the retirement age, we could all be working for many years into our old age. However, whilst you may be expected to work longer, there is an increasing pressure to look younger and there is an ever increasing and sometimes bewildering array of beauty treatments to help us to do this. Footballer's wives and the rest of the rich and famous may be indulging in cosmetic surgery but for many, this is beyond their budgets and is seen as a more drastic solution which they are not prepared to take. Many are turning to non-surgical beauty treatments which are designed to turn back the years through a course of treatments and regular maintenance. These types of anti ageing beauty treatments seem to meet with a greater level of acceptance in society compared with the surgical alternatives. This article looks to explain three such types of beauty treatments.

The use of infrared light and bipolar radiofrequency energies has been used in the field of medicine but is now being applied for beauty treatments to remodel the dermal layer of the skin. This approach helps to both tighten the skin and also stimulates collagen growth. It works by heating the dermal tissue in the targeted area with a precise application. It helps to reduce fine wrinkles and lift sagging skin e.g. under the eyes. The texture of the skin will look smoother, more toned and generally more luminous as a result. It is particularly good for the face and neck but can also be used on the upper arms, knees and abdomen. Maintenance is recommended every 4 to 6 months after initial treatment depending on individual needs. See our ReFirme Treatment for more details.

Microdermabrasion is a nonsurgical resurfacing procedure which works by blasting the skin with medical grade sand like crystals. A miniature vacuum removes the crystals and the dead skin, exposing the softer and smoother skin beneath. This also means that the skin exposed is more receptive to nutrients from other beauty treatments. The process also stimulates the epidermis layer, promoting new collagen which helps to thicken the dermal skin layer and provide protection from the effects of ageing. This beauty treatment works well for dry or oily skin, fine lines, wrinkles or skin damaged by the sun, acne or other scar tissue.

Electrical impulse massages works by applying electrical impulses to the face; massaging the skin with a micro current. It can be used in conjunction with other skin products. Our muscles have a natural electrical charge which keeps our muscle tone when we are younger. However, over time, we lose this charge and this beauty treatment helps to recharge the muscles to give greater tone, prevent sagging and reduce wrinkles. It also helps to promote the collagen and elastin production. Following an initial course of treatment, it is necessary to have further maintenance sessions every 4 - 6 weeks. The advantage of these treatments are that they are non invasive, painless and do not involve a recovery time. You should consult your beauty therapist to see what treatment would best suit you and always ensure that the therapist is specifically trained in the treatment provided.
